World AIDS Day - 1 December 2007

According to UNAIDS estimates, there are now 33.2 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children. During 2007 some 2.5 million people became newly infected with the virus. Around half of all people who become infected with HIV do so before they are 25 and are killed by AIDS before they are 35.
Around 95% of people with HIV/AIDS live in developing nations. But HIV today is a threat to men, women and children on all continents around the world.
Started on 1st December 1988, World AIDS Day is not just about raising money, but also about increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. World AIDS Day is important in reminding people that HIV has not gone away, and that there are many things still to be done.

The WAC’s slogan for their work is "Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise". This is an appeal to governments, policy makers and regional health authorities to ensure that they meet the many targets that have been set in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and especially the promise of universal access to HIV treatment, care, support and prevention services by 2010. This campaign will run until 2010, with a related theme chosen for World AIDS Day each year.

Brothers&Sisters: Matthew Rhys (Kevin)

Brothers & Sisters, the ABC drama, features what may be the most substantial recurring gay character ever on network television. That character is Kevin Walker, and he's played, brilliantly, by a Welsh actor named Matthew Rhys (pronounced “Reese”).
Rhys is already a well-known face in the United Kingdom, but he may be less familiar to American audiences. The success of Brothers & Sisters, however, and his integral role on the show is sure to change all that. Though he is surrounded by a stellar ensemble cast of more readily recognizable television stars (among them Sally Field, Calista Flockhart, Rachel Griffiths and Rob Lowe), Rhys more than holds his own. Brothers&Sisters: Dave Annable

Dave Annable is quickly becoming one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors, with his combination of talent and affable charm winning over both fans and critics alike. Annable is perhaps best known for his role on FOX's critically acclaimed drama, Reunion, a complex serial mystery spanning 13 years, in which each episode reveals a yearly clue to a controversial murder. Prior to his work on Reunion, he had guest-starring roles on NBC's Third Watch and The WB's Other People's Money.

On the big screen Annable is best known for his role as Bean in director Nick Hurran's Little Black Book, opposite Brittany Murphy, Kathy Bates and Holly Hunter.

An avid sports fan, Annable grew up in Walden, a small town in upstate New York, playing baseball, rugby and hockey. He attended college at SUNY Plattsburgh, where he was a member of PSTV (Plattsburgh State Television). He also studied acting at the famed Neighborhood Playhouse in New York with Richard Pinter.

Hairspray: Review

The consequence of launching Hairspray at the Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City so soon after the movie incarnation was on circuit remains to be seen, but it could well result in disinterest among those who saw the film.

I hope that this is not the case as this production is not only a very different experience compared to the movie, but in many ways a far superior one.

He was the overwhelming winner in the survey; perhaps partly the result of being so very visible. He’s in innumerable TV and print ads, as well as gracing the Woolworths men’s underwear packaging with his athletically chiselled body. He’s also a Men’s Health Look competition winner and is one of Cosmopolitan magazine’s Sexiest SA Men of 2007 – among innumerable other titles.
