As long as there is hope...

Many people had a very tough 2008 and 2009 has not been different for some of us (me included - even with that said, my 2009 looks much more positive than 2008 - I see the challenges as blessings in disguise lol).

So what makes us carry on even after we have been "klapped" to the floor by life's little surprises? What makes us stand up and keep on walking (even if it is with a limp)? I though long and hard about this one...and came to one conclusion - HOPE.

Wikipedia describes Hope as the following: It is a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life. Hope is the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best. To hope is to wish for something with the expectation of the wish being fulfilled, a key condition in unrequited love. Hopefulness is somewhat different from optimism in that hope is an emotional state, whereas optimism is a conclusion reached through a deliberate thought pattern that leads to a positive attitude.

We hope for world peace, equality, love for your neighbour etc etc, but how many of these things will ever be achieved? I think that the factor that is most important here is "the expectation of the wish being fulfilled" - so the key word for me is "expectation". When human beings expect something and they don't get it after a while - that is when the wheels come of. But it is also that expectation that drives us to take action and to make it happen.

So go on and make a list of things that you hope would work out / change / happen etc etc. Will the Zimbabwe crisis ever end? Will we experience total world peace in our life time? Will we save the whale? Will I become a millionaire within the next year?

We can only hope....
