ZAKUMI: Our official 2010 Soccer Mascot unveiled
626 days before the start of the first African FIFA World Cup™ at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on 11 June 2010, the cloud of secrecy surrounding the Official Mascot has been lifted.
Embedded in a vibrant African-themed live TV show that was broadcast nationwide, Zakumi today (22 September 2008) made his official debut in front of an audience of millions on South Africa's primetime SABC Coca-Cola Soccer Zone.
The Official Mascot, a leopard, has been designed and produced exclusively in the host country. The name is a composition of "ZA", standing for South Africa, and "kumi" translating into "10" in various languages across Africa. Inspired by his football idols, Zakumi has dyed his hair green as he felt it would be the perfect camouflage against the green of the football pitch.

Mbeki: The saga continues
Deputy-president Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is set to lead an exodus of cabinet ministers who are unhappy with the ANC national executive committee (NEC) decision to axe President Thabo Mbeki
Despite this, ANC president Jacob Zuma is expected to reassure ANC deployees in government that the party wants them to remain in their positions.
This comes after the decision of the all-powerful ANC NEC to sack Mbeki following Judge Chris Nicholson's ruling that suggested that Mbeki, or some in his executive, might have interfered with the National Prosecuting Authority's decision to charge Zuma.
Mbeki is alleged to have approached a constitutional court to appeal against inferences made by the judge who threw out graft charges against Zuma citing political interference. Some political observes believe Mbeki's move is to clear his perceived tarnished reputation as well as that of his cabinet.
My view is that this could not have come at a worste time in our democracy - as 2010 is looming around the corner and investment is crucial for the success of this country. The next view weeks will have a definite deciding factor on what the future may hold for us - waiting like sitting ducks while the politicians play their game.

Intersting Fact: Facebook
Facebook was originally named TheFaceBook and it was developed by Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg. The first use of the FaceBook was on the Harvard campus and it was limited only to Harvard students. Soon the FaceBook spread like wild fire around the other major U.S. Universities. Mark Zuckerberg dropped the Harvard and pursued his facebook dream to become one of the 4th most-trafficked websites in the world with more than 90 million active users. The FaceBook website is built on PHP-MySQL technology and it is probably the most popular PHP website ever built. Interesting fact is that the facebook.com domain was purchased for $200,000 and FaceBook has more than 24 million photos uploaded daily.

Andante Guest House - Bloemfontein
I recently had to go to Bloemfontein to do a presentation at the University (UOFS). I wondered where to stay - and was refered by a friend. I really did not expect much (coming from the the big city - and we have seen it all) -but was a pleasantly surprised.
Not only was the room where I stayed at Adante Guest house "WORLD CLASS", but the friendly staff and home-like environment made me feel at home. The best of all - it is affordable !!
Owners of Andante - You have converted me and I will never stay anywhere else whenever I am in Bloem. Thank you for your warm hospitality.

London/Freiburg.
Public voting for World Mayor 2008 has now ended. Between January of this year and the end of June more than 200,000 people from around the world cast their votes for and commented on mayors who they thought worthy of the 2008 Award. While all of this year’s 50 long-listed mayors have made significant contributions to the well-being of their communities, eleven of them stand out in terms of number of votes and persuasiveness of supporting statements received.
You have supported Helen Zille, Mayor of Cape Town, for World Mayor 2008. The winner together with all other results will be announced next month. Mayor Zille has won great support from within and outside Cape Town and will be among the top five mayors of the world.
