I think a lot of people go a bit "ape-shaait" in December when it comes to spending. I have learned from previous years ... and did not put myself in any kind of financial deadlock. Barack Obama will be sworn in as president just days before the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth, and his inauguration theme will reflect the timing: "A New Birth Of Freedom," a phrase from the Gettysburg Address. It will take place 20 January , 2009 beginning at 11:30 a.m. EST and 8:30 Am Pacific time.
Obama's inauguration expenses are likely to be to the tune of over $150 million, overshadowing the $42.3 million spent on George Bush's inauguration in 2005 and $33 million on Bill Clinton's in 1993, media report said.
Interest in President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration is running so high that one ticket broker is asking $20,095 for a single ticket.

New Years 2009 Pics
New Year 2009 will always be remembered. We went to Capitol in Rosebank, where the official Flight New Years party was.
We were a group of about 19 people that went - but 10 of us went with a limo to and from the venue (Joburg is a war zone over December with road blocks) - here are some of the pics

Hope
So what does 2009 hold for us. I think most of us feel that "OMG it can't be worse than 2008" ...and you are propably right.
In numerology 2009 promises us all the chance to learn & grow as human beings (2+0+0+9= 11/2) - Numerology forecasts reduce numbers to a single digit, except when the master numbers 11 and 22 are involved (which it is).
This year does indeed reduce to a master number. But, that master number starts out as the number 29 so let's take a closer look at the number 29, itself, first. This number is indeed a 'testing number', meaning that everything in life is a test, really. The main thing that we all have open to us in a free world , is choice. This is a fundamental of a democratic society and we have the power to choose how we are gonna live our lives and what we will achieve. Every opportunity that arises is a chance for us to learn, love and forgive. So in terms that is what the number 29 has in store for us.
As a prediction, the number 11 in the position of 2009 means that mankind will be forced to learn and grow about the true meaning of what it is to be human and part of a universal collective of people. A coming together of all nations and peoples is forseen as we globally all unite and pull together for the good of all.
I am all for new beginnings and is open to change. My feeling is that one's mind-set is 99% of the solution for a path to a happier 'you'. We are our own worste enemies and 'box' ourselves - be open to what is possible and do not limit yourselve with a "I can't attitude" - rather embrace your environment and try to make a difference - and remember wherever there is hope ...there is success just waiting to be unleashed.

2008 in a Nutshell
I think everybody had a very tough and exhausting 2008. It was a rollercoaster ride that made me think of something out of Jumangi ...but alas we made it into 2009 in one piece - maybe not totally commonsensical (nice word hey lol) - but we made and I think that is all that matters.
Here are some of the highlights of 2008:
The year kicked of in the dark ...no really ....remember when "load shedding" literally had us on our knees (feeling our way around our houses). I think this was a premonition of what was in store for us in the year to come.
We started to get the warnings of a global economic meltdown, as America and Europe started to make very disturbing predictions ...which all came true in the end
Closer to home we had the evil twin sister of racism that came in visit. We saw people being tortched alive in the townships as Xenophobia took its toll.
Fuel prices reeked havoc on everybody's personal budgets, and we thought to ourselves what is gonna happen to us...
Tito Mboweni (Governor of the SA Reserve Bank) hiked the repo rate and slapped people who owned cars and homes with a massive interest rate of 12% (meaning we paid 15.5% to the banks)
For the first time the ANC needs to pull up their socks as COPE (Congress of the People) start to take centre stage and announces their intentions to run in the election in 2009
Unemployment in South Africa drops from 31.2% (in March 2003) to 23% - the lowes since 2001.
The 2010 Soccer World cup is due to contribute R55 Billion to the economy of South Africa and in the same breath create 415,000 new jobs
Zakumi, the official mascot for 2010, is announced
The Gautrain starts to take shape and everyone living in Gauteng has seen the development happening right infront of their eyes
President Thabo Mbeki is asked to step down - and President Kgalema Mothlanthe takes over. He wastes no time in replacing the Health Minister with Barbara Hogan (a massive move in the fight agains HIV/AIDS
Helen Zille won World Mayor Award
Natalie du Toit makes history by becoming the first amputee to qualify for the Olympic Games
Cape Town named "Best World City" by the readers of a UK newspaper and the "World's Most Iconic City" by National Geographic America elect their first African American president - Barack Obama
These are only a few of the massive amount of events that took place (or that I can recall of the top of my head). Altough it was a very tough year ... it is these difficult times that make us realise how strong we are as human beings and as a nation. If we survived 2008, we can survive anything.
